With a moat, beautifully landscaped gardens and large grounds, Herstmonceux ticks all the boxes of an impressive castle. But it's never seen battle, it is in fact a private home, the largest in England at the time of its completion in the 15th century, and one of the first brick buildings. Today it is owned by Queen's University Ontario Canada and used as an international study centre. It's great fun to explore the grounds, such as the Shakespeare Garden, a walled garden filled only with plants referenced in Shakespeare plays. The estate also houses the impressive Observatory Science Centre, with its numerous domes and telescopes a world famous centre for astronomy.

The magical rainbow bridge at @Raystede animal welfare centre - always a fantastic day out for little ones. Lots of animals and pets, play areas, a pond, cafe and shop. It's free to visit but donations are much appreciated as the sanctuary relies on them.

Breakfast time at the Giant Panda Breeding Research Base in Chengdu. After stuffing their faces with fresh bamboo the pandas fall in a kind of stupor, lazing around for the rest of the day. It's wonderful to see them close up and so well looked after.
