For easy arrival, start in Uruguay’s close neighbour, Buenos Aires, Argentina’s colourful, ever dancing capital. Visit Diego Maradona’s home in La Boca, enjoy the relaxed vibes of Palermo and marvel at countless, ostentatious mausoleums at La Recoleta cemetery.

Hop on the ferry to Colonia del Sacramento, to start your tour of Uruguay. Spend a couple of days in this beautiful, historic UNESCO world heritage site.

Move inland towards Florida for a stay on a traditional Uruguayan working ranch, such as Estancia El Ceibo. Explore the vast farm land on horseback or foot, kick back and indulge in delicious home cooked food.

Head further east towards Lavalleja Department, renowned for its rugged, hilly countryside. Explore scenic national parks, visit the department’s capital Minas and soak up the stunning scenery.

Move on to Rocha department and its beautiful coastline, where you can spend a couple of nights in laid back La Pedrera, enjoying the beautiful beaches and surrounding villages.

For a more touristy experience, head back westwards to glitzy Punta del Este, Uruguay’s prime tourist beach resort. On route, take a stop at the stunning beach of the upscale fishing village of Jose Ignacio. 

After a few days on the beach, continue westwards to Montevideo, Uruguay’s beautiful capital. Visit the city’s wonderful Sunday market, indulge in plentiful Asado at the Mercado del Puerto and, if the timing is right, perhaps even catch a rodeo competition at El Prado.

From Montevideo head back towards Colonia del Sacramento and return to Buenos Aires via ferry.
